A Heartfelt Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi—17,000 km Away from Home

This Gandhi Jayanti, I found myself thousands of miles from India—17,000 kilometers away, in the beautiful city of Santiago, Chile. Yet, the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, our beloved Bapu, was as present and powerful as ever.

I had the profound honor of commemorating this sacred day alongside Her Excellency Abhilasha Joshi, Ambassador of India to Chile, in a heartfelt tribute to the Father of our Nation. In that moment, surrounded by fellow Indians and Chilean friends, I was moved by the deep reverence and admiration the people of this distant land hold for Gandhi ji.

Gandhi’s Universal Legacy

What struck me most was how Gandhi’s message of peace, nonviolence, and truth continues to transcend borders and cultures. His teachings have become a global moral compass, inspiring generations far beyond India. His timeless words—

“There is anxiety, but there is no end.”
“There is no way to peace. Peace is the solution.”
—resonate now more than ever in a world in search of calm, understanding, and justice.

A Personal Reflection

This day also brings back memories of my father, who once gave me a copy of Gandhi’s autobiography, “My Experiments with Truth.” It changed my life. The honesty, vulnerability, and discipline Gandhi embodied shaped my outlook and helped me understand the true strength of humility and conviction.

Today, I encourage all young Indians, wherever they may be in the world, to read this profound work. It’s not just a book; it’s a manual for living with integrity.
